Up/Down Value

This is a Score Card tool that it similar to the Traffic Light tool in that it provides a visual indication of a field’s status, but goes further by the addition of arrows to show the location of the value in relation to a specified middle value i.e. above, below or within the middle range. It is also possible to show the actual value in the grid next to the indicator:

It is designed to be used in a score card to provide an immediate visual indicator, for example when a key performance indicator is out of a defined ‘acceptable’ range.

Adding an Up/Down value to a Score Card

  1. Flip the score card and drag the Up/Down Value tool to the Scores Workspace, or manually add the tool using the [Add] button.

A new Up/Down Value configuration area is displayed:

  1. Enter a suitable title which will appear as a heading on the Score Card.

  1. Edit the background and default colors as appropriate. You will edit the actual indicator colors in a later step.

  1. Drag the measure column from the Data Explorer that will form the basis of the traffic light and drop it in the Measure field. This displays the Measure Configuration window from which you configure aspects such as the function used for the measure.

  2. Configure the remaining fields, as required:

  3. Show indicator: Select this checkbox if you want to display visual indicators. When selected, a ‘down arrow’ for values below the middle range, an ‘up arrow’ for values above it, and a square for values within the middle range is shown.

  4. Show Values: Check this box if you would like the actual measure value to be displayed in addition to the indicator.

  5. Ranges: By default there are three ranges: below, middle and above. These ranges can either be fixed, or can be calculated using a percentage of the selected measure. You can enter fixed ranges by checking the boxes and entering ‘from’ and ‘to’ values, ensuring that the ranges don't overlap. To enter percentage ranges, uncheck the 'Fixed' box, select the measure that the percentage will apply to, and then enter a percentage range - where 100% would be the total measure value. For example, you could enter 0% to 80% for the lower range, 80% to 120% for the middle range, and 120% to 1000% for the upper range.

You can also select a color to apply to each range from the drop-down menu provided. Both the values and indicators will be colored.
